Materialized Gestures
Materialized Gestures
Gestures are fleeting signs. They seem to pass by without a trace. But each gesture has its own form, the speaker himself, as well as his counterpart, who physically-visually perceive and interpret. The exhibition "Gestures - yesterday, today, the day after tomorrow" poses the question: What role do hand movements play in human communication? What do gestures have to do with the use of objects? How do gestures relate to tools and machines that replace hand functions?
In cooperation with university professor Irene Mittelberg, a method was developed for the exhibition to visualize invisible traces of movement and thereby capture the temporary. Based on the hand movements recorded with motion capture technology, models are calculated and 3D prints produced. The resulting fragile sculptures show the dynamics of physical forms of expression as gestures that have become material in real space.
