Science Day and Exhibition
The Science Day 2019 of the Faculty of Architecture thematized practices of image generation. Multimodal, drawing and modelling actions were juxtaposed in order to investigate the aesthetic practice of visualising ideas and experiences in and with images. The programme included lectures and table discussions in which selected questions were discussed at the interface of art and science. Moments and forms of visual comprehension, also in dealing with physis, materiality and tools, were discussed in an interdisciplinary manner.
The open call was aimed at researchers and doctoral candidates working on practices of the visual. In the context of a technical university (RWTH Aachen University), the goal was formulated to discuss research approaches that see themselves as close to practice and pursue explorative and artistic image strategies. The interest of the Science Day was to promote one's own research orientation (architecture / artistic design) by means of an interdisciplinary call for proposals and to contribute to the still new research culture of the discipline. The participants came from various disciplines: architecture (design / tool cultures / CAAD), art history, design, art education, free art, scenography, neuropsychology, cognitive linguistics and semiotics and philosophy.
